Thoughts on tuning vocals:

Myth: Spin Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven backwards on a turntable and the devil will appear.
Reality: Play Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven normally and you can time travel to an era when singers had talent and could actually sing.

Tuning vocals destroys the natural subtle harmonic frequencies of the vocalist and how those frequencies interact with the other parts of the song. It destroys the natural overtones created by real singing.
One of the most awful examples of this I have ever heard was in a Youtube video, where someone attempted to tune Brad Delp's vocals on Boston's song More Than A Feeling. The result completely destroyed the soul and character of the vocals.
If your music is going to have vocals, record real vocals and do not tune them. A slightly off performance is infinitely better and has far more character than soulless, artifically generated perfect tuning.
